Federer to be a father

The second-ranked Swiss tennis player said in a message posted Thursday on his Web site that girlfriend Mirka Vavrinec is pregnant with the couple's first child.

"This is a dream come true for us," the 27-year-old Federer said. "We love children and we are looking forward to being parents for the first time. Mirka is feeling great and everything is going well."
The baby is due sometime in the summer, he said.
"We are so happy to be starting a family together," said Federer, who met Vavrinec at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Jarkko Nieminen started 2009 playing “head to toe” with Wilson. In addition to his long standing racket contract with Wilson, the top 40 player debuted Wilson’s new apparel & footwear on this year’s pro tour.

Another key element of Jarkko’s switch to Wilson is the fit, performance, and on-court stability support focus that Wilson has developed for their footwear. Jarkko will also be wearing different footwear models that are more closely tied to the various surfaces he will compete on throughout the year.

Australian Open 2008

Well, the 2008 Tennis season officially starts January 14th. Will we see someone make a charge at Federer?....Will Davenport get one more Major?

Lets start with the Men. Clearly Federer is the favorite to win the Australian Open, but there are a few players who won't make it easy for him. Here is my list of 3 players who I think have a shot at taking the title from Federer.

1) Mikhail Youzhny: He's playin well, and is about to challenge Nadal in the finals at the Chennai Open. Even if he loses to Nadal, he is still a threat at the Open.

2) Rafael Nadal: Is he able to take the grind? Can his body stay together for 2 weeks. I believe if Nadal was on one leg, he'd still make it to the quarters. You can never count him out.

3) Novak Djokovic: He's rested, and has the game to win here.

Alright, lets see if I can pick just 3 on the womens side. The change in surface should also affect the womens draw. Here are my list of 3 players who can WIN the title.

1) Maria Sharapova: She lost in last years final. If she can keep it together, she could win.

2) Justine Henin: She has her warm up at Medibank. She is mentally ready to win this title.

3) Lindsay Davenport: I know it's a long shot. She won the ASB tournament this weekend. Now, she didn't beat any top players at ASB, but she still playing well and could make a run at the major.

Roger Federer won his fourth Masters Cup title in five years Sunday, overwhelming No. 6 David Ferrer 6-2, 6-3, 6-2.

It was the third consecutive dominating performance by Federer, who won his 53rd career title - including eight this year - and ran his record against Ferrer to 8-0.

Federer collected $1.2 million and a new car for the win.

Who's buying the cocaine?

The 27-year-old five-time Grand Slam champion made the revelation Thursday during a news conference to announce her retirement from tennis for the second time and refute a claim that she tested positive for the drug at Wimbledon.

Here's what Hingis said "I find this accusation so horrendous, so monstrous that I've decided to confront it head-on by talking to the press," she said. "I am frustrated and angry. I believe that I am absolutely 100 per cent innocent."

Hingis said she was accused of taking cocaine by "an outsource testing company" during this past year's Wimbledon. She lost to American Laura Granville 6-4, 6-2 in the third round of the grass-court Grand Slam. Under guidance from her family and management, Hingis said she later underwent a privately arranged hair test, which came back negative for cocaine. The official backup B sample test on her Wimbledon urine sample, however, tested positive for the drug.

Hingis said she hired a lawyer who found "various inconsistencies" with the urine sample and felt she would have a good case to fight the results. However, at 27, she said she wouldn't be fighting the charge.

Ok, so if cocaine can help you get a top 20 ranking on tour.....where can I get some?...LOLOL !

Will someone answer his prayers !

Well, it seems Nadal's mission on being number #1 still continues. I'm not sure if his joints will hold up.

I believe he should take a rest, and not just a weekend off. He should take 3-4 weeks off. I know he'll lose points in the race and probably open the door for Djokovic to take number #2. ok, so we all know he won't rest. Then why not play more CLAY tournaments, and give your joints somewhat a rest. It seems Nadal won't even do that.

Here is a look at the early part of Nadal's 2008 schedule:

Nadal won't be in Latin America for the first time in his career during the February post-Australian Open period, the three-time French Open winner will follow his usual schedule of playing at high profile European and Middle East events. Nadal is entered in Rotterdam and also signed up for Dubai.

"It's clear that it would be better for Rafa to play on clay, but it won't happen," said his coach and uncle, Toni. "There is no possibility that Rafa will play Acapulco and Buenos Aires."

I guess we'll see how Nadal does in Australia......things could change.

Roger Federer beats Nadal ..... 2-6, 6-2, 6-0.

Federer's come-from-behind win was his first over Nadal on clay in six matches. Nadal leads the overall series 7-4. The win ended Federer's drought after he failed to win a title in his last four events, his worst run since he became world No. 1 in February 2004.

Nadal's record winning streak on clay at 81 matches is over !

Now, will Federer have the confidence to win the FRENCH !

My earlier question was " Will anyone beat Federer?".

Well, as of January 28, 2007 ...NOBODY HAS !!

When you go up against perfection you simply can't make mistakes. Gonzalez mades 3 mistakes, and lost in 3 sets
(Missed forehands, Lost serve in 2nd, Lost serve in 3rd).
This match was close and if Gonzalez playes like this more often he'll being seeing Federer in future finals.

Well, it starts in a few days and the big question is "WILL ANYONE BEAT FEDERER?"

Let me start by saying the odds aren't good, but it isn't impossible. Roddick has to be one of favorites to beat Federer. I do believe the "Cinderella Man of 2006" Marcos Baghdatis won't even make Semi's this time around.

Here are my top 3 picks that could WIN it all:

1. Roger Federer (Easy choice)
2. Andy Murray (Brad Gilbert could get a MONKEY into the semi's)
3. Marat Safin (My Longshot pick)

Ok, now onto the Women's side. There is no doubt that Amelie Mauresmo is the favorite. Justine is out, and most likely spending the 2 weeks hitting her husband over the head with her tennis racquet. There are a few challengers Sharapova, Clisters, Pertrova and Kuznetsova.

Hey, has anyone seen the Williams sisters?.....If so, could you get them tickets for the finals....I'd hate for them to miss it.
